How To Use Medisave For Dental Services

Medisave is a national medical savings scheme in Singapore. It helps Singaporeans or Permanent Residents put aside some income into their Medisave Accounts to pay for future hospitalisation, day surgery and certain outpatient expenses. As such, you can also use Medisave to pay for certain dental services as well. We will explain which dental services are Medisave claimable below.

You may use your Medisave or that of your immediate family member to pay for hospitalisation and selected outpatient expenses incurred at any accredited hospital in Singapore. For hospitalisation expenses, Medisave can only be claimed if the patient stays in the hospital for at least 8 hours (unless the patient is admitted for day surgery).

In addition, The Dental Studio is accredited by the Ministry of Health (MOH) and CPF. This means that patients who come to us will be able to claim a portion of their surgical fees from their Medisave.

You can use Medisave to pay for certain dental surgical procedures/ day surgeries such as:

Also, you can use your immediate family member’s Medisave if your own is insufficient. Immediate family members refer to your spouse, parents, or child. However, please note that the use of Medisave is subject to approval depending on your account balance. The patient or the Medisave Account holder has to fill in and sign the required Medisave Authorisation Form.

How much Medisave can I use to pay for dental services?

The type of surgery determines the amount you can claim from your Medisave. This is because each surgery has a specific code and a predetermined amount that can be claimed. All claims are based on a fixed limit from the Table Of Surgical Procedures (TOSP). The Table of Operations is provided by the Ministry of Health (MOH), as shown below:

Table of Operations Medisave Limits
1A / 1B / 1C S$250 / 350 / 450
2A / 2B / 2C S$600 / 750 / 950
3A / 3B / 3C S$1,250 / 1,550 / 1,850
4A /4B / 4C S$2,150 / 2,600 / 2,850

You can make claims of between $250 to $2,850 from Medisave. The amount you can claim depends on the complexity of the surgical procedure.

How to claim Medisave for Dental Procedures

Firstly, you should inform the medical institution that you want to claim from your Medisave during payment or while being discharged.

Next, the medical institution will ask you to sign the Medical Claims Authorisation Form (MCAF). This form authorises the clinic or hospital to use your Medisave monies to pay the bill. Lastly, you will be sent a Medisave Claims Statement after the payment has been processed, and it will show you:

  1. the medical institution where the patient was admitted,
  2. the name of the patient you have paid for, and
  3. the amount deducted from your Medisave.

Furthermore, the medical institution should also:

  1. inform you or the patient of the bill incurred,
  2. confirm your name (the Medisave account holder) with you,
  3. inform you about the amount deducted from your Medisave, and
  4. inform you and the patient about any outstanding bills to be paid.
